Comment/Description

One of the earliest studies on teacher anxiety confirmed that “teaching is one of the top five most stressful careers in the world” (Kyriacou, 1987, p. 147). The teaching profession is also considered to be amongst those occupations most affected by burnout syndrome in Germany, meaning that 33% of all educational practitioners are seriously affected by stress-related health problems (vbw, 2014, p. 57). Despite the occupational stress experienced by teachers, a great number of students in Germany still decides to attend a teacher training program. In this seminar, foreign language teaching profession will be explored from different perspectives such as professional decision-making process, a comparison of English teacher training programs, current trends in teacher training, and particularly the future of teaching profession with a specific focus on teaching anxiety.
