Comment/Description

This lecture is part of the module "Plasma-Material Interaction". After an introduction to the basics of plasma physics and nuclear fusion, we discuss the processes at the plasma edge. This includes both the plasma and the material side of plasma-wall interaction. Finally, damage mechanisms of plasma-facing materials and components are reviewed.

The other part of the module "High heat load components in nuclear fusion devices", which is offered during the summer semester, deals with designing and testing plasma-facing components, which have to withstand immense heat and particle fluxes.

A more detailed outline of the lecture contents is offered as Powerpoint slides in the files section.

Both lectures of the module can be taken in arbitrary order. However, for students without any previous background in plasma physics, starting with "Fundamentals of Plasma Material Interactions" in the winter semester can be beneficial.
