Module assignments

Religion has always played a significant role in American history and its diversity and vitality continues to amaze historians and visitors alike. While European churches have suffered from continuous membership loss, the opposite seems to be true in the United States. More than 90% of Americans believe in God, half of them attend religious services regularly, and new churches continue to be founded. In this course, we will study the reasons and consequences of these differences and explore American religious history from 18th to the 21st century. Special attention will be paid to indigenous American religious organizations, such as Shakers, Mormons, Amish, Christian Science and Scientology.

Note: This seminar will be held in English, but term papers (Hausarbeiten) can be written in English or in German.
