Comment/Description

As the name suggests, this class will deal with the subject of sociolinguistic variation both in general and specifically within English. We will first cover sociolinguistic basics, i.e., the most important social variables that may lead to distinctions between different groups of people and the most common linguistic variables that are typically affected. Then the class will focus on particular examples of social groups and how their respective characteristics (differences in social class, gender, ethnicity, age, specific domains of interest) are intertwined with corresponding linguistic feature (lexis, grammar, pronunciation, language use)

Studierende der Anglistik/Amerikanistik und des Faches Englisch können sich bereits während der vorgezogenen Anmeldephase zur Sicherstellung des Studienfortschritts für die Aufbau- und Vertiefungsmodule anmelden.
