Kommentar/Beschreibung

The lecture will turn to the major developments of twentieth and twenty-first century theatre and drama in the UK and Ireland.

We shall start with the 19th century heritage and writers like George Bernard Shaw and shall then turn to the so-called "well-made play", TS Eliot, and Samuel Beckett.

Emphasis will be given to the various prpoductive 'waves' of what has gained a world-wide reputation as the "New British Drama" starting with John Osborne's Look Back in Anger in 1956 and leading up to the very present of the 21st century.

A bibliography will be provided for the students.
