Comment/Description

This seminary deals with in-depth analysis of contemporary Latin American films about migrant’s identities and struggles to belong to host cities. In particular, students will investigate the psychological conflicts posed by strategies to fit into the new urban culture, the resistance, agency, distorted self-perceptions posed by the eyes of otherness, and the search to negotiate hybridity on the part of migrants from Latin America with resource to secondary literature.

By analyzing characters and the themes posed by selected movies with the support of key concepts from postcolonial cultural studies, students will be able to deepen their knowledge of migrant and subaltern subjectivities in order to determine conflicts of belonging to cities in an interdisciplinary way.
