Kommentar/Beschreibung

This advanced seminar provides an overview of key themes, issues, and debates within the Environmental Humanities (EH) with a particular focus on the field of literary and cultural studies. Based on in-depth readings, the seminar presents and familiarizes students with relevant concepts, terminology and approaches from environmentally oriented cultural studies, and with different theories pertaining to the relationship between humans and their environments in local and global contexts, including indigenous cultures’ perspectives.
Students acquire foundational knowledge in the EH and develop the ability to critically scrutinize and assess terms and concepts, and to evaluate their historical backgrounds, as well as their implications and visions for the future. Students learn to establish connections between humanities disciplines and to develop multi-/inter-/transdisciplinary perspectives. They are invited to consider their own positionality and develop ethically informed perspectives on human-nature-interactions.

Students in English and American Studies, Englisch LA or literary oriented studies must be prepared to read a novel alongside the regular course material.

Anmelderegeln

Diese Veranstaltung gehört zum Anmeldeset "Zeitgesteuerte Anmeldung: HS Key Concepts and Theories in the Environmental Humanities".
Studierende der Anglistik/Amerikanistik und des Faches Englisch können sich bereits während der vorgezogenen Anmeldephase zur Sicherstellung des Studienfortschritts für die Aufbau- und Vertiefungsmodule anmelden. Hierzu wird ein gewisses Kontingent der Kursplätze im Zeitraum vom 11.08.2025 bis 27.08.2025 für die Anmeldung geöffnet. Die Verteilung der Plätze erfolgt am 29.08.2025 um 12 Uhr. Bitte beachten Sie, dass in dieser Anmeldephase Studierende in höheren Fachsemestern bei der Verteilung der Plätze priorisiert werden.
Die allgemeine Anmeldephase beginnt am 02.09.2025 und endet am 06.10.2025.
Folgende Regeln gelten für die Anmeldung:
  • Folgende Personenkreise werden bei der Platzverteilung bevorzugt:
    • Abschluss ist Master of Arts (1134 Personen)
  • Die Anmeldung ist möglich von 02.09.2025, 08:00 bis 06.10.2025, 12:00.
  • Es wird eine festgelegte Anzahl von Plätzen in den Veranstaltungen verteilt.
    Die Plätze in den betreffenden Veranstaltungen wurden am 08.10.2025 um 12:00 verteilt. Weitere Plätze werden evtl. über Wartelisten zur Verfügung gestellt.
