This course is designed to train you to decompose and analyse sentences and clauses. It essentially builds on the skills you have acquired in the base module, and it is divided into two parts: In the first weeks of the semester, we will recapitulate the central concepts of English syntax (both formal and functional levels, POS classes, etc.); in the second half, we will apply this knowledge and analyse authentic English sentences. Please note that this course is based on the Comprehensive Grammar of the English Language (CGEL; Quirk et al.).
