What do we need theory for and how does it help us understand literature and other cultural practices? This “Übung” supplements the seminar ‘Theories and Methods’; while the seminar is focused on theoretical texts that have had an impact on literary and cultural studies but that largely do not explicitly deal with literature, this supplementary course looks more specifically at theoretical approaches to literature. It will draw on some of the theoretical frameworks also covered in the seminar but look primarily at their analytical application to literature. As our ‘test cases’ for different approaches, we will work with Kamila Shamsie’s novel Home Fire (2017) and several shorter literary examples.

Students are expected purchase a copy of the novel. All other texts will be provided on Digicampus.

Für diesen Kurs werden alle Kursplätze im Zeitraum vom 12.08.2024 bis 28.08.2024 für die Anmeldung geöffnet. Da es sich um ein Blockseminar mit einer Vorbesprechung im September handelt, werden alle Plätze bereits am 30.08.2024 verteilt. Eine Anmeldung während der regulären Anmeldephase ist nicht möglich.
Folgende Regeln gelten für die Anmeldung:
  • Folgende Personenkreise werden bei der Platzverteilung bevorzugt:
    • Abschluss ist Master of Arts (1100 Personen)
  • Die Anmeldung ist möglich von 02.09.2024, 08:00 bis 07.10.2024, 12:00.
  • Es wird eine festgelegte Anzahl von Plätzen in den Veranstaltungen verteilt.
    Die Plätze in den betreffenden Veranstaltungen werden am 09.10.2024 um 12:00 verteilt.
