Kommentar/Beschreibung

Who deserves to be healthy? At what cost to society? And what is the role of politics in this equation? – Following the first part of this two-semester research seminar, we deepen and broaden our understanding of the politicisation of health in Europe and beyond. The first part of the seminar has provided us with a sound knowledge base on actors and policies, trends and determining factors, on theories, concepts, methods and models in the study of health, health politics and politicisation. In this second part, we will now translate this acquired knowledge into our own empirical research projects. Based on the research reports developed over the summer, the participants prepare and implement the data collection and analysis. Throughout the entire process of developing their research projects, participants receive both individual and collective feedback and feedforward to help them develop their work.

Alongside the implementation of individual research projects, we also broaden our understanding of the dynamics, roots and repercussions of health politicisation. To this end, we engage with current debates and controversies in both politics and academia on issues such as health justice, inequalities, crisis management, polarisation, and tensions between legal entitlements and perceptions of deservingness. Just like the first part, the second part of this research seminar builds on and benefits from the input and interactive engagement of its participants. It will again be tailored to their interests and build on their diverse skills, expertise and experience.
