Comment/Description

The lexicon is the part of language most closely connected to sociocultural reality and thus also the most immediately affected part in language contact. Thoughout its whole history up to and including today English has been a high-contact language, showing many different sociocultural scenarios of contact with speakers of other languages: both oral and written, equal or hierarchical, close or remote, short or long, desired or resented. While in the past it was usually the receiving language (borrowing words, e.g., from French or Urdu), at present it is the donor language world-wide (giving words, e.g,, to German or Japanese). We will look at thes different scenarios and their short-term (e.g. codemixing) and long-term effects (e.g. types of borrowing, structure of the lexicon) in more detail, using dictionaries, thesauri and corpora for case studies. We will also analyse past and present critical discussions of foreign linguistic influence.

Studierende der Anglistik/Amerikanistik und des Faches Englisch können sich bereits während der vorgezogenen Anmeldephase zur Sicherstellung des Studienfortschritts für die Aufbau- und Vertiefungsmodule anmelden. Hierzu wird ein gewisses Kontingent der Kursplätze im Zeitraum vom 20.02.2023 bis 01.03.2023 für die Anmeldung geöffnet. Die Verteilung der Plätze erfolgt am 03.03.2023.
Bitte beachten Sie, dass in dieser Anmeldephase Studierende in höheren Fachsemestern bei der Verteilung der Plätze priorisiert werden.
Die allgemeine Anmeldephase beginnt am 06.03.2023 und endet am 10.04.2023.

  • The enrolment is possible from 06.03.2023, 08:00 to 10.04.2023, 12:00.
  • Enrolment is allowed for up to 2 courses of the admission set.
  • A defined number of seats will be assigned to these courses.
    The seats in the affected courses have been assigned at 12.04.2023 on 12:00. Additional seats may be available via a wait list.
