I. Course Description The course aims to give an overview of Higher Education as a field of study and research. Students will gain an understanding of the regulation, key stakeholders, and the evolution of the sector in comparison with other public sectors. The main objectives of the course are to provide students with a research approach so as to gain an understanding of how Higher Education works in Europe and overseas, which include both theoretical foundations and data analysis aìinsights. There will be two classes meant both to present the Higher Education sector, its main components, theories, and hot topics and to identify the topic on which each student should produce a research paper. The final presentation will be held in class. II. Learning Objectives Through individual written and oral assignments, students will learn: • Awareness: A deep understanding of the context where they live. • Critical Thinking: Clarify which conclusions about cause and effect can be drawn using this research approach. • Information Literacy: How to identify high-quality, objective sources of information and then use it to create evidence-driven arguments. • Data analysis: How to use Stata and Excel to collect and analyse data • Writing Skills: How to use information to produce scientific work. |
