Comment/Description

Nouns have been described as names for persons, places or things, and their semantic classification is vast. As for their grammatical functions, NPs can be subject, object, complement. Pronouns have been described as placeholders for nouns (and NPs).
The goal of this course is to analyse the forms and functions of nouns, NPs and pronouns across contexts and discourse domains. Particular attention is given to how ‘things’ and ‘people’ are represented in academic discourse, media discourse and in the social media.
