Drawing from an international perspective, the main focus of this two day course is to allow students to develop a deeper understanding of what learning and instruction means at cross-national and cross-cultural levels. Central instructional and learning approaches are discussed which combine conceptual and theoretical insights from the educational and psychological sciences. Students will learn about the role that cultural diversity and differences across continents and countries play in learning and instruction. Based on this, we will discuss how this needs to be borne in mind when conducting research on such processes, and the potential that an international perspective has to enrich research. This will be exemplified by the discussion of own research ideas and projects that selected students are encouraged to present. The class will be taught in English, together with an internationally renowned expert on learning and instruction, Prof. Dr. Ruth Butler (Hebrew University of Jerusalem).
