This seminar will serve as an introduction to the philosophical field
of contemporary environmental aesthetics. After a brief historical
introduction and background, we will explore some of the main
positions in the current debate. We will first address the debate
between cognitivist and anti-cognitivist theories, which takes place
mainly in the English-speaking world. Then we will consider the
aesthetics of atmospheres as ecological aesthetics. Finally, we will
explore the question of the beginning or birth of the landscape and of
our aesthetic experience of nature.
Expert scholars will be invited to give lectures on specific topics.
The texts for the seminar will be in English.
