Cycling instead of driving a car, regional grown food instead of apples imported from New Zealand, solar power instead of fossil fuel - how do we decide whether we act ecologically and sustainably or not? Is our decision influenced by media content and our knowledge of the behaviour of others? In the first part, the seminar looks at psychological models that can explain our decision-making and ecological behaviour. Among other things, the influence of social comparisons, norms, self-efficacy, action effectiveness and emotions will be examined. Environmental decision making is discussed under the perspective of social dilemmas. In the second part, approaches for effective media interventions to promote sustainable and ecological behaviour are discussed. We will develop effective intervention material for a specific environmental behaviour and test it experimentally.
