Basis for credit in this lecture course is a written exam.
The lecture offer an overview of American literary history. Besides extensive historical contextualization and attention to different aesthetic means and literary genres, each session will focus on one particular work in detail to illustrate central points of the period covered in that session.
Contextualizing materials and the sessions' powerpoints will be provided on Digicampus. In addition, students will be asked to choose and read at least two of the eight texts (which comprise novels, poems, and short stories) centered in this class. These texts will be uploaded on Digicampus by the beginning of the term.
