Seminar: MA V1: Gesellschaft und Medien: Enabling the discourse for the 21st century? The potential of interactive digital media for reducing complexity
Interactive digital narrative (IDN) is an umbrella term used to encompass the various formats of digital narratives such as hypertext fiction/non-fiction, interactive movies/drama/video installations, video games, and virtual reality experiences. The study of IDNs transverses the disciplines of communication studies, narratology, informatics and game studies. The current pandemic or the environmental crisis show that traditionally cultural and political narratives are no longer able to adequately represent our complex reality. The main aim of our seminar is therefore to critically evaluate IDN and their potential for representing and even let the users experiencing complexity. Therefore we will review the current state of research on IDN and develop together an empirical study to test the impact of IDN.
