Comment/Description

In nature there are many systems which evolve with time. The goal of dynamical systems is to understand their long-time behavior. The study of dynamical systems combines techniques from different branches of mathematics such as analysis, geometry, and topology. Moreover it has surprising applications ranging from number theory to physics.

The goal of this seminar is to discuss order and chaos in some typical dynamical systems via examples of different nature. What is the relationship between the curvature of a surface with its geodesic motion? What can we say about the two-body and three-body problem? If we play billiard inside a closed curve in the plane, can we be sure that there are closed trajectories and there are trajectories visiting any small pieces of the boundary curve? These are some of possible topics for this seminar.

Some initial sessions of this seminar will be used to cover some basics of dynamical systems. Nevertheless, as a Bachelor seminar, the idea is to have some fun together. Please get prepared that participants are supposed to contribute talks on pre-assigned topics.
