Kommentar/Beschreibung

Tugging at the seams of coloniality and the very notions of poetry and language itself, poets from the Caribbean and its diasporas engage with canonical intertexts and thought patterns in innovative ways. Three focal collections form the basis for our in-depth analyses and discussions across a wide range of contexts: Safiya Sinclair’s Cannibal (2016) engages with Shakespeare’s The Tempest in dialogue with previous renditions of the figure of Caliban across Caribbean literatures. Kei Miller’s The Cartographer Tries to Map a Way to Zion (2014) explores an epistemic dialogue between a Rastaman and a Cartographer, which we will link to Rastafari thought more generally. Dionne Brand’s Nomenclature (2022), featuring her poetry across several decades, examines the powers of words, sounds, language, sexuality and the nation, providing further links for discussions across these collections. Participants have to be familiar with Shakespeare’s The Tempest before the beginning of the course and will be assigned individual or group projects for further literary, contextual and intertextual research.

Anmelderegeln

Diese Veranstaltung gehört zum Anmeldeset "ALW/ELW/NELK: Vertiefungsmodul BA: HS".
Studierende der Anglistik/Amerikanistik und des Faches Englisch können sich bereits während der vorgezogenen Anmeldephase zur Sicherstellung des Studienfortschritts für die Aufbau- und Vertiefungsmodule anmelden. Hierzu wird ein gewisses Kontingent der Kursplätze im Zeitraum vom 24.02.2025 bis 05.03.2025 für die Anmeldung geöffnet. Die Verteilung der Plätze erfolgt am 07.03.2025. Bitte beachten Sie, dass in dieser Anmeldephase Studierende in höheren Fachsemestern bei der Verteilung der Plätze priorisiert werden.
Die allgemeine Anmeldephase beginnt am 10.03.2025 und endet am 14.04.2025.

Students of English and American Studies, as well as those studying English within a teacher-training degree, can register for the advanced and specialization modules during the early registration phase to ensure their academic progress. A certain quota of course places will be made available for registration from the 24th of February , 2025, to the 5th of March, 2025. The allocation of places will take place on the 7th of March, 2025. Please note that during this registration phase, students in higher semesters and M.A. students will be given priority in the allocation process.
The general registration phase begins on the 10th of March, 2025, and ends on the 14th of April, 2025.

    Die Anmeldung zu maximal 1 Veranstaltungen des Anmeldesets ist erlaubt.
  • Es wird eine festgelegte Anzahl von Plätzen in den Veranstaltungen verteilt.
    Die Plätze in den betreffenden Veranstaltungen wurden am 16.04.2025 um 12:00 verteilt. Weitere Plätze werden evtl. über Wartelisten zur Verfügung gestellt.
