Care and Gender are interrelated ideas and concepts. The term care / caring was used to describe gendered activities in families (e.g. DeVault 1991) and has become important within the research of many disciplines such as sociology, politics, ethics and gender studies. Nowadays, the concept of care involves a broad variety of definitions of what should be included within the concept. Nevertheless, ideas of care as bridging paid and unpaid work, work within families and in institutions, private and public activities as well as boundaries between love and work are essential. The seminar has a focus on social inequality and work and will cover texts about gender and difference, care as work, ethical and emotional aspects of care and links between care in western societies and migration.
