This course is part of the Summer Program 2025 and taught by Prof. Chen (Durham University).

This course provides a foundational understanding of Chinese commercial law while examining the political, economic, and social factors that have shaped China’s legal development over the past few decades. It offers a critical analysis of contemporary legal issues, focusing on China's unique trajectory in commercial law development, which navigates between its socialist heritage and a liberal market economy.
To this end, the course explores key areas of Chinese commercial law, including contract law, IP law, Cross-border data transfer, Chinese International Commercial Court, investment law and commercial arbitration, providing students with a comprehensive insight into the legal framework governing business and commerce in China.
