Comment/Description

Graphene is a recently (2004) discovered “two-dimensional” material consisting of a one-atom-thin layer of carbon atoms. In contrast to conventional materials, electrons in graphene have not parabolic but linear energy dispersion and behave like quasi-relativistic massless two-dimensional quasi-particles. This leads to a number of unique electrodynamic properties of graphene, such as its strongly nonlinear optical response. The linear and nonlinear electrodynamics of graphene is currently intensively studied in the literature. An overview of this rapidly developing and hot area of research will be given, with a detailed discussion of fundamental electrodynamic properties of graphene and their possible applications in electronic and optoelectronic devices.
