During the COVID pandemic, Giovanni Boccaccio’s 14th-century collection of stories, told to each other by a group of people sheltering from the bubonic plague, received renewed attention and became the foundation for a wide range of literary and other creative projects. Addressing questions of community and collaboration as coping and creative strategies, we will revisit a selection of Boccaccio’s tales and analyze The New York Times Magazine’s collection The Decameron Project (2020), featuring stories by 29 well-known writers, as well as the “collaborative novel” Fourteen Days (2024), edited by Margaret Atwood and Douglas Preston. In addition, we will discuss the “video post-cards” assembled in the Decameron Row project (2020) and return to Boccaccio’s tales by way of Kathleen Jordan’s 2024 “medieval black comedy” limited series The Decameron (Netflix), which reimagines the 1348 setting in a genre b(l)ending manner.

Anmelderegeln

Diese Veranstaltung gehört zum Anmeldeset "ALW/ELW/NELK: Vertiefungsmodul BA: HS".
Studierende der Anglistik/Amerikanistik und des Faches Englisch können sich bereits während der vorgezogenen Anmeldephase zur Sicherstellung des Studienfortschritts für die Aufbau- und Vertiefungsmodule anmelden. Hierzu wird ein gewisses Kontingent der Kursplätze im Zeitraum vom 24.02.2025 bis 05.03.2025 für die Anmeldung geöffnet. Die Verteilung der Plätze erfolgt am 07.03.2025. Bitte beachten Sie, dass in dieser Anmeldephase Studierende in höheren Fachsemestern bei der Verteilung der Plätze priorisiert werden.
Die allgemeine Anmeldephase beginnt am 10.03.2025 und endet am 14.04.2025.

Students of English and American Studies, as well as those studying English within a teacher-training degree, can register for the advanced and specialization modules during the early registration phase to ensure their academic progress. A certain quota of course places will be made available for registration from the 24th of February , 2025, to the 5th of March, 2025. The allocation of places will take place on the 7th of March, 2025. Please note that during this registration phase, students in higher semesters and M.A. students will be given priority in the allocation process.
The general registration phase begins on the 10th of March, 2025, and ends on the 14th of April, 2025.

    Die Anmeldung zu maximal 1 Veranstaltungen des Anmeldesets ist erlaubt.
  • Es wird eine festgelegte Anzahl von Plätzen in den Veranstaltungen verteilt.
    Die Plätze in den betreffenden Veranstaltungen wurden am 16.04.2025 um 12:00 verteilt. Weitere Plätze werden evtl. über Wartelisten zur Verfügung gestellt.
