Comment/Description

Satire / irony is one well-known case where the real, intended meaning is hidden behind the overtly expressed meaning. In less spectacular cases we also find such hidden or inferred pragmatic meanings with indirect speech acts like requests, with metaphors and with under- or over statements The advantage of such hidden meanings is that they can be used strategically for certain user purposes, such as reaching specific groups of addressees, producing a greater effect, being polite, or avoiding responsibility for one’s ultimate meaning. A disadvantage consists in potential misunderstandings and discursive conflicts.
N.B. on hybrid format: a mix of asychronous (digicampus-based) elements and on-campus sessions (Präsenz), very little zoom if at all.
