This course investigates the intersections of postcoloniality, the biopic genre, and gender within the context of South Asian, specifically Hindi, cinema. Through both online and offline sessions, we will examine the evolution of Hindi cinema in a postcolonial framework, critically examining how the biopics construct and deconstruct narratives of national identity, historical memory and gendered subjectivities. The course integrates theoretical lectures, film clip viewings and critical discussions, with an aim to illuminate how cinematic representations reflect and shape socio-political discourses and identity formations in contemporary South Asia.
Please note that there will be an information session on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, 10:00 - 11:30 am via zoom (attendance mandatory).
