A set of lectures will be given about a hot research area of modern condensed matter physics: the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with low-dimensional electron systems such as semiconductor quantum wells, quantum wires and quantum dots, as well as novel two-dimensional materials like graphene. Fundamental electrodynamic phenomena taking place in these materials, as well as their applications for detection, modulation and emission of microwave and terahertz radiation will be discussed.
