Accessing the vast number of information from international assessments compels us to focus on how societal factors and globalization influence the school systems, teaching practices, expectations, and learning outcomes throughout the entire world. This course will examine comparative education in a global context, with emphasis on the selected countries. Specific topics that will be addressed include the school policies, economics of education; teacher preparation, pay, and status in the community; curriculum and pedagogy; assessment of learning; remedial programs, gifted students, and education of children with disabilities.
Course aims
To build knowledge and awareness of studying education in an international context
To introduce learners to key concepts in international education such as globalization, policy exchange-borrowing
To promote reflection on the nature of social justice on a global scale
To facilitate reflection on the issues particular to international research including intercultural skills
The course language is in English, the term paper (“Portfolio") can be written in German or English.
