Kommentar/Beschreibung

In this course we will analyze the novels of Zimbabwean writer Tsitsi Dangarembga’s ‘Tambudzai and Nyasha Trilogy’ – Nervous Conditions (1988), The Book of Not (2006) and This Mournable Body (2018) – as well as a selection of Dangarembga’s films. Engaging with questions of gender in colonial Rhodesia and post-independence contexts through the personal story of Tambudzai, whose life and psychological challenges unfold across the trilogy, Dangarembga’s novels constitute a unique contribution to Zimbabwean literature. Her films, mostly created in the time span between the first two novels, examine how social issues can be narrated in the medium of film to “make the unspeakable speakable,” as she has stated in an interview. Addressing modes of narrating the spectacular across Dangarembga’s literary and filmic oeuvre furthers this course’s inquiry into more general questions surrounding engagements with African literary and filmic aesthetics.

Anmelderegeln

Diese Veranstaltung gehört zum Anmeldeset "Zeitgesteuerte Anmeldung: Making the Unspeakable Speak: Tsitsi Dangarembga’s Novels and Films".
Students of English and American Studies, as well as those studying English within a teacher-training degree, can register for the advanced and specialization modules during the early registration phase to ensure their academic progress. A certain quota of course places will be made available for registration from the 24th of February , 2025, to the 5th of March, 2025. The allocation of places will take place on the 7th of March, 2025. Please note that during this registration phase, students in higher semesters and M.A. students will be given priority in the allocation process.

The general registration phase begins on the 10th of March, 2025, and ends on the 14th of April, 2025.

Studierende der Anglistik/Amerikanistik und des Faches Englisch können sich bereits während der vorgezogenen Anmeldephase zur Sicherstellung des Studienfortschritts für die Aufbau- und Vertiefungsmodule anmelden. Hierzu wird ein gewisses Kontingent der Kursplätze im Zeitraum vom 24.02.2025 bis 05.03.2025 für die Anmeldung geöffnet. Die Verteilung der Plätze erfolgt am 07.03.2025. Bitte beachten Sie, dass in dieser Anmeldephase Studierende in höheren Fachsemestern bei der Verteilung der Plätze priorisiert werden.
Die allgemeine Anmeldephase beginnt am 10.03.2025 und endet am 14.04.2025.
Folgende Regeln gelten für die Anmeldung:
  • Folgende Personenkreise werden bei der Platzverteilung bevorzugt:
    • Abschluss ist Master of Arts (1136 Personen)
  • Die Anmeldung ist möglich von 10.03.2025, 12:00 bis 14.04.2025, 12:00.
  • Es wird eine festgelegte Anzahl von Plätzen in den Veranstaltungen verteilt.
    Die Plätze in den betreffenden Veranstaltungen wurden am 16.04.2025 um 12:00 verteilt. Weitere Plätze werden evtl. über Wartelisten zur Verfügung gestellt.
