Module assignments

The course aims to explore the concepts of art, craft, and industrial scale production from an anthropological perspective, evidencing the bias of modern Western thought in conceiving the ancient world. Building from the main sources of the archaeological inquire (material evidence, texts, iconography, ethnoarchaeology, and experimental replicas), we will analyze the topic of craft production in the ancient Mediterranean, encompassing materiality, technology, and agency.
At the end of the lessons, the students will be able to discuss with an appropriate terminology the issues of raw material selection and processing, use, reuse, and recycle with regards to the most common pyrotechnological products.
