Please be advised:
- This course will take place from early January - early May 2025. Grades and ECTS will count for WiSe 24-25
- This is a hybrid course co-taught by the University of Augsburg and Indiana University (USA). The Indiana students will attend the course in person in Indiana, the Augsburg students will attend the course online. Lectures will be recorded so that Augsburg students can watch the lectures at a later time/date if they have schedule conflicts.

- This course fits into the following Studiengänge and Modulgruppen:
1. GBM: Global Business & Economics
2. IBE: Major International Track
3. BWL/VWL: General Management & Economics

o The focal point of the course will be a group project resulting in a major paper/report and presentation on the strategic management of metropolitan economic development. Students will be part of a group consisting of four/five people, including students from both Indiana University and the University of Augsburg. They will work together to analyze the economic development of a specific city or region of their choosing. Their projects will address the following questions:
1. What are/were the main economic development problems and challenges? What evidence can be provided to document these challenges?
2. What policies did the governing bodies implement to deal with these challenges? Why was this particular set of policies pursued?
3. How successful were these policies in meeting the economic development challenge particular to that city or region? What evidence can be provided to document the policy’s success or lack thereof?

The student groups will work together on their project throughout the course. Each student team or group is expected to complete an in-depth paper and make a professional in-class presentation. In addition, the classrooms will be linked through Zoom and all class lectures, discussions and activities will be linked and interactive.

Successful completion of the course will result in student development in the following areas:
1. Openness and ability to learn from diverse and different group members from a different cultural and national context.
2. The ability to undertake a major research collaborative project using distance technologies, i.e. Zoom and various internet platforms.
3. The ability to leverage differences in perspectives and backgrounds emanating from cultural and national difference to enhance the analysis and presentation of the group project.
