Kommentar/Beschreibung

Master-Hauptseminar / Prüfungsform: Seminararbeit HS (MA) (ca. 46.000 Zeichen)
This seminar will explore how female activists for women’s rights and social justice exchanged ideas in the Atlantic world, collaborated across national borders as well – sometimes – also across borders of race, class, and gender throughout the long 19th century.
We will discuss how, even without formal political rights, women were able to develop effective strategies, working within their own countries as well through personal transnational connections and newly created organizations to accomplish their goals. Moreover, we will examine how and why these goals changed and expanded to include not only the abolition of slavery and temperance, but also women’s property rights, access to education, child protection as well as suffrage and pacifism

Note: The seminar will be held in English, but research papers can be submitted in English or in German.
