The lecture will present a survey of the history of English from its beginnings on the British Isles in the 5th century up to the present, paying attention to the connection between extralinguistic and linguistic developments. The major developments on all linguistic levels as well as the standardization process will be outlined.
N.B. The lecture is suitable for assisting in the preparation for the linguistic state exam.
N.B. on hybrid format: The main content of lecture will be made available as recordings. Exercise and discussion sessions will take place on campus (Präsenz).
