Comment/Description

The lecture provides a comprehensive overview on medical monitoring and advanced techniques for sensor data processing with relevance to medical monitoring. It is divided in two main parts. Part 1 covers fundamental aspects with respect to medical monitoring. It overviews basic ideas, a historical perspective, the status quo and trends regarding medical monitoring (e.g. multimodal monitoring strategies, predictive approaches and the extended use of wearables for monitoring purposes). Part 2 illustrates advanced processing techniques (univariate methods and sensor data fusion) that are relevant to the various types of today’s monitoring. Covered topics are time-frequency-transforms as the short-term Fourier transform and Wavelet transform, Kalman-filters, advanced denoising and dimension reduction techniques (as deep autoencoders and source separation techniques) and finally detection/classification approaches. All such concepts are described in the context of concrete monitoring applications.
