Comment/Description

Der Termin für das Blockseminar wird noch bekannt gegeben.

This seminar will serve as an introduction to some of the fundamental texts of Western philosophical aesthetics. We will start with two seminars on pre-modern aesthetics, from ancient Greece (Aristotle) to medieval philosophy. Then, we will focus on the origin of modern aesthetics in the 18th century, reading works from David Hume, and Immanuel Kant, and its development in the next two centuries, with G.W.F. Hegel, Arthur Schopenhauer, John Dewey and Martin Heidegger. One seminar will be devoted to women’s writings in aesthetics (Murdoch) the last one to contemporary developments of philosophical aesthetics. At the end of the seminar, students will have acquired a general comprehension of the development of aesthetics within the philosophical tradition.
