Kommentar/Beschreibung

This course serves as an introduction to central concepts of narrative analysis, including narrative situation, time and space, unreliability, etc. Discussions of theoretical texts lay the foundation for the analysis of selected short stories from Caribbean and Pacific literatures, practicing the application of relevant concepts in close reading exercises. This course is hands-on and interactive, and provides the conceptual vocabulary and methodological approaches to interpreting narrative fiction, a necessary skill both in regard to writing term papers in literary and cultural studies and (if applicable) the state exam.

All course materials will be provided via Digicampus. Please note that this is a bi-weekly four-hour class!

For the modules EAS-1411 and EAS-1414, this course has to be combined with the PS “Anglophone Speculative Ecofiction” (Eva Krannich), which is scheduled for the same time slots in the alternating weeks of this course!

All students will automatically be registered for the appropriate exercise class/Übung once they have been assigned a place in their proseminar. Studierende der Anglistik/Amerikanistik und des Faches Englisch können sich bereits während der vorgezogenen Anmeldephase zur Sicherstellung des Studienfortschritts für die Aufbau- und Vertiefungsmodule anmelden. Hierzu wird ein gewisses Kontingent der Kursplätze im Zeitraum vom 11.08.2025 bis 27.08.2025 für die Anmeldung geöffnet. Die Verteilung der Plätze erfolgt am 29.08.2025 um 12 Uhr. Bitte beachten Sie, dass in dieser Anmeldephase Studierende in höheren Fachsemestern bei der Verteilung der Plätze priorisiert werden.
Die allgemeine Anmeldephase beginnt am 02.09.2025 und endet am 06.10.2025.
Folgende Regeln gelten für die Anmeldung:

Es wird eine festgelegte Anzahl von Plätzen in den Veranstaltungen verteilt.
Die Plätze in den betreffenden Veranstaltungen wurden am 08.10.2025 um 12:00 verteilt. Weitere Plätze werden evtl. über Wartelisten zur Verfügung gestellt.
Die Anmeldung ist möglich von 02.09.2025, 08:00 bis 06.10.2025, 12:00.
Diese Regel gilt von 11.08.2025 08:00 bis 27.08.2025 12:00.
Die Anmeldung zu maximal 1 Veranstaltungen des Anmeldesets ist erlaubt.
