Comment/Description

This course serves as an introduction to central concepts of narrative analysis, including narrative situation, time and space, unreliability etc. Discussions of theoretical texts lay the foundation for the analysis of selected contemporary short fiction, practicing the application of relevant concepts in close reading exercises. This course is hands-on and interactive and aims to provide students with the conceptual vocabulary and methodological approaches to interpreting narrative fiction, a necessary skill both regarding writing term papers in literary and cultural studies and (if applicable) the state exam.

All course materials will be provided via Digicampus.

For the two-course-modules EAS-1411 and EAS-1414, this Ü is to be combined with the following PS:
- Enslavement in African American Literature (Nadine Ellinger)
- Magical Realism (Danica Stojanovic)
