Copying, sketching and creation are a three-in-one teaching system in Chinese painting.Copying is the foundation of sketching and creation, and requires the understanding of the basic procedures of painting, learning of painting skills and grasp of the formula and language features of national art.
Murals in Yongle Temple, the copied template in this course are masterpieces in the history of Chinese painting. They were painted from the 13th century to the 14th century, inheriting the excellent painting techniques since the Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty while integrating intense characteristics of the times. The model has rigorous proportion and vivid gesture. The lines employed are vigorous, fluent and simple. In terms of color, natural pigments in heavy colors were used to fill in, and the technique of gelled patterning and gilding is used to create the quietness, solemnity and magnificent momentum of Taoism.
Through the course, learners can have a good understanding of the characteristics of traditional murals, acquire painting techniques, and deepen their understanding of the aesthetic thinking and wisdom of China.
