Comment/Description

This course introduces the central concepts of narrative analysis, including narrative situation, time and space, unreliability etc. Discussions of theoretical texts lay the foundation for the analysis of selected narratives, enabling students to apply relevant concepts in close reading exercises. The course aims to provide students with the conceptual vocabulary and methodological approaches to interpreting narrative fiction, a necessary skill both in regard to writing term papers in literary and cultural studies and (if applicable) the state exam. Course texts will be drawn from the wide corpus of so-called ‘neo-slave narratives’. All course materials will be provided via Digicampus.

Please note that for the modules EAS-1411 and EAS-1414, this course has to be combined with the Proseminar “Rewriting Enslavement" (Prof. McPherson).
