Kommentar/Beschreibung

The lecture addresses current topics in the context of Knowledge Representation in Biomedicine and its applications.

The contents include:
- Philosophical and logical foundations
- Controlled vocabularies, terminologies, and classification systems
- Formal ontology and upper-level frameworks
- Biomedical domain ontologies
- Knowledge representation formalisms and languages
- Applications and integration

After the course, students should be able to:
- Explain the specific challenges of biomedical knowledge representation
- Explain the distinction between terminologies, classifications, and ontologies
- Apply description logics in the biomedical field
- Design medical domain knowledge into an ontology
- Navigate and evaluate an existing ontology for fitness for a specific purpos
- Reflect on the gap between ontological formalism and biological reality
