Allgemeine Informationen

Veranstaltungsname Vorlesung: Advanced Mechatronics Lab
Veranstaltungsnummer INF-3615
Semester WS 2026/27
Aktuelle Anzahl der Teilnehmenden 1
maximale Teilnehmendenzahl 8
Heimateinrichtung Ingenieurinformatik mit Schwerpunkt Mechatronik
Veranstaltungstyp Vorlesung in der Kategorie Lehre
Nächster Termin Mittwoch, 14.10.26, 08:15 - 09:45 Uhr W 1023
Teilnehmende The course is limited to 8 participating students. Candidates will be selected randomly from all registrations until October 13th. It is mandatory to join the first lecture (October 14th). In addition, candidates on the waiting list should also join the first lecture. If any selected candidates do not joint, we will pass the places along the present attendees!
Voraussetzungen Students must have successfully completed the Bachelor's-level Praktikum Mechatronik or an equivalent module focusing on the development of mechatronic components, or provide comparable evidence of prior experience in developing mechatronic components. If you have not previously studied Ingenieurinformatik B. Sc., please contact us so that we can assess your suitability for the course.

Prior knowledge of a CAD program is strongly recommended.
Lernorganisation The students will be assigned two small groups in which competing concepts will be designed and developed. Each group is free to manage their working times, however, we recommend joining the regular lab times (Wednesday, 8:15 - 13:45).

In the first few weeks, lectures (starting at 8:15) will introduce in the development goals and advanced concepts of hardware design and development.
Leistungsnachweis The performance of each group will be evaluated based on two presentation (intermediary and final) and the quality of the developed prototype including a validation test. The first presentation will feature the design concept and the steps taken to arrive at the concept. The final presentation will feature the development from concept to real prototype. The validation will feature typical tasks from RoboCup@Home.

Kommentar/Beschreibung

**Attention**: Registration until 13.10.2026, 12:00 is necessary to participate in the randomized selection of candidates. It is, further, mandatory to attend the first lecture on 14.10.2026, 08:15.

The module will be held in English or German, depending on the preference of the students.

Advanced Mechatronics Lab (AML) is a project-based lecture with the aim to develop a mechatronics system, similar to "Praktikum Mechatronik" in the B. Sc. Ingenieurinformatik. In contrast to the Bachelor's lab, AML features more complex systems with more freedom in the development process. The development is carried out in small groups (approx. 4 students) from October to end of March throughout the whole semester, including the semester break. After few initial lectures, the groups will be free to manage their working times individually, albeit we suggest meeting at the designated lab times (Wednesday, 8:15 - 13:45), in which our tutors will be present.

The development goals are synchronized with our RoboCup@Home project, in which we build and program a robot for participating in the RoboCup competition. Hence, AML is complementary to the Autonomous Robotics Lab that deals with the software components and software-hardware integration. AML is supported by industrial partners who provide hardware components.

The goal of AML 2026/2027 will be to develop a multi-purpose robot gripper for domestic environments. More information will be shared during the first lecture.

Note that AML is limited to 8 participating students. This is due to availability of manufacturing ressources and the space in the mechatronics lab. Candidates will be selected randomly from all registrations at October 13th, 12:00. Later registrations will be automatically be assigned to free places (if available) or the waiting list. It is mandatory to join the first lecture (October 14th). In addition, candidates on the waiting list should also join the first lecture. If any selected candidates do not joint, we will pass the places along the present attendees!
