*EAS-1411: For this module, this is the corresponding course to "Science Fiction in Literature and TV (Proseminar)" (Mon 8:15-9:45). Please make sure to keep both slots free in your timetable if you want to take this module! Participants of the Proseminar will automatically be allocated to the Übung.
This courses takes on a dual approach to short stories in science fiction - the first focusing on tools of narrative analysis that enable a comprehensive close reading of the text, and the second focusing on science fiction as a genre and its various elements such as the fetishizing of science in sci fi, utopias, dystopias and religion in sci fi. Towards the end of the course, participants should find themselves armed with the necessary tools to analyse most narratives and have a broader, more holistic understanding of science fiction as a literary genre.
The various short stories that will be examined in this course will be announced in due time and will include works by Andy Weir, Ursula K. Le Guin, Geoffrey Landis and more.
