This course will examine the ways in which race is presented in literature. Many of our discussions will center on the idea of the “other” within a particular context and how this otherness varies depending on whose perspective is used to tell the story. Though the issue of race itself will obviously drive much of this course, our goal is to look at how different writers have chosen to feature race in their respective narratives, and how this may have been effective or problematic if, for instance, it compromised the story in some way. We will not necessarily be looking for instances of racism—those should be apparent enough—but instead those instances when race is not overtly mentioned but still very present within the context of the narrative. To help us better understand this complex issue we will look at novels, stories, and essays.

Die Anmeldung ist möglich von 25.03.2019, 18:00 bis 05.04.2019, 18:00.
Es wird eine festgelegte Anzahl von Plätzen in den Veranstaltungen verteilt.
Die Plätze in den betreffenden Veranstaltungen wurden am 08.04.2019 um 12:00 verteilt. Weitere Plätze werden evtl. über Wartelisten zur Verfügung gestellt.
Diese Regel gilt von 25.03.2019 18:00 bis 05.04.2019 18:00. Die Anmeldung zu maximal 1 Veranstaltungen des Anmeldesets ist erlaubt.
