Whether you promise to help somebody move, apologize for a mistake or inform somebody of the train departure time, you are doing an action (a speech act) that has real effects in the world – such as that your addressee might suddenly rush off to catch the train. In analysing such speech acts, we will pay attention to speaker intentions, hearer effects and their general socio-cultural and discourse contexts. The factors that make speech acts (un)successful, so-called felicity conditions, and the forms of speech acts, both direct/straightforward and indirect ones, will be highlighted. Different classes of speech acts will be illustrated, following Searle’s categories of representatives, directives, commissives, expressives, and declarations. The variation of speech acts across time, cultures, and languages will also be considered.

Studierende der Anglistik/Amerikanistik und des Faches Englisch können sich bereits während der vorgezogenen Anmeldephase zur Sicherstellung des Studienfortschritts für die Aufbau- und Vertiefungsmodule anmelden. Hierzu wird ein gewisses Kontingent der Kursplätze im Zeitraum vom 24.02.2025 bis 05.03.2025 für die Anmeldung geöffnet. Die Verteilung der Plätze erfolgt am 07.03.2025. Bitte beachten Sie, dass in dieser Anmeldephase Studierende in höheren Fachsemestern bei der Verteilung der Plätze priorisiert werden.
Die allgemeine Anmeldephase beginnt am 10.03.2025 und endet am 14.04.2025.

Students of English and American Studies, as well as those studying English within a teacher-training degree, can register for the advanced and specialization modules during the early registration phase to ensure their academic progress. A certain quota of course places will be made available for registration from the 24th of February , 2025, to the 5th of March, 2025. The allocation of places will take place on the 7th of March, 2025. Please note that during this registration phase, students in higher semesters and M.A. students will be given priority in the allocation process.
The general registration phase begins on the 10th of March, 2025, and ends on the 14th of April, 2025.
Folgende Regeln gelten für die Anmeldung:
  • Folgende Personenkreise werden bei der Platzverteilung bevorzugt:
    • Abschluss ist Master of Arts (1045 Personen)
  • Die Anmeldung ist möglich von 10.03.2025, 12:00 bis 14.04.2025, 12:00.
  • Es wird eine festgelegte Anzahl von Plätzen in den Veranstaltungen verteilt.
    Die Plätze in den betreffenden Veranstaltungen wurden am 16.04.2025 um 12:00 verteilt. Weitere Plätze werden evtl. über Wartelisten zur Verfügung gestellt.
  • Diese Regel gilt von 10.03.2025 12:00 bis 14.04.2025 12:00.
    Die Anmeldung zu maximal 2 Veranstaltungen des Anmeldesets ist erlaubt.
