Where are you at home and what makes this place home to you? Is it your beloved, your zip code, your community, your garden, the tasks in life, the landscapes that you are surrounded by, your more than human neighbors? In this seminar we will zoom in on a topic that is already almost too close to see it clearly. What is this home pulling us back, that we at times miss terribly, or long to have one day? It seems to depend most of all on an idea we carry around with us, about our lives in space and time. But what exactly this idea is remains mysterious.
In this class, we will study depictions of home in literature, in films and other forms of artistic expression across different times and cultures. We’ll meet – among others – infamous room travelers, feminists of the domestic, off-grid dwellers, farming poets, wandering zen monks and daydreaming architects. The homes of this seminar are broad and diverse: from the body as our first home to the planetary oikos. The aim is to provide students, firstly, with a wide lens on the topic of home, and, secondly, with a basis for their own creative endeavors. This class is for folks who like to write. Prompt and free-write exercises as well as time to reflect on and discuss the writing will be an integral part of each class. No prior expertise is needed, but please come curious. Some sessions will have to take place on Zoom.

Anmelderegeln

Diese Veranstaltung gehört zum Anmeldeset "ALW/ELW/NELK: Aufbaumodul BA/LA: Cultural Studies".
Studierende der Anglistik/Amerikanistik und des Faches Englisch können sich bereits während der vorgezogenen Anmeldephase zur Sicherstellung des Studienfortschritts für die Aufbau- und Vertiefungsmodule anmelden. Hierzu wird ein gewisses Kontingent der Kursplätze im Zeitraum vom 19.02.2024 bis 28.02.2024 für die Anmeldung geöffnet. Die Verteilung der Plätze erfolgt am 01.03.2024. Bitte beachten Sie, dass in dieser Anmeldephase Studierende in höheren Fachsemestern bei der Verteilung der Plätze priorisiert werden.
Die allgemeine Anmeldephase beginnt am 04.03.2024 und endet am 08.04.2024.
Folgende Regeln gelten für die Anmeldung:
  • Diese Regel gilt von 04.03.2024 08:00 bis 08.04.2024 12:00.
    Die Anmeldung zu maximal 1 Veranstaltungen des Anmeldesets ist erlaubt.
  • Die Anmeldung ist möglich von 04.03.2024, 08:00 bis 08.04.2024, 12:00.
  • Es wird eine festgelegte Anzahl von Plätzen in den Veranstaltungen verteilt.
    Die Plätze in den betreffenden Veranstaltungen wurden am 10.04.2024 um 12:00 verteilt. Weitere Plätze werden evtl. über Wartelisten zur Verfügung gestellt.
