This seminar introduces Science and Technology Studies - a field of research that examines the different links between science, technology, and society in everyday life and thus, among other things, defines the role of knowledge, technology, and risk acceptance in processes of social order.

We will discuss the work of the renowned STS scholar Sheila Jasanoff and her conceptual developments of 'sociotechnical imaginaries', 'civic epistemologies', and the 'co-production' of knowledge. By reading her work about cross-national differences in environmental policy and the regulation of chemicals by specific approaches to risk assessments, we will explore the role of science, technology, and society in implementing environmental law, politics, and policy.
