Kommentar/Beschreibung

This course serves as an introduction to central concepts of narrative analysis, including narrative situation, time and space, unreliability etc. Discussions of theoretical texts lay the foundation for the analysis of selected short stories, practicing the application of relevant concepts in close reading exercises. In this course we will engage with various manifestations of hauntings—be it specters, uncanny encounters or unresolved pasts—in texts ranging from classic Gothic tales to contemporary speculative fiction.

This course is hands-on and interactive and aims to provide students with the conceptual vocabulary and methodological approaches to interpreting narrative fiction, a necessary skill both in regard to writing term papers in literary and cultural studies and (if applicable) the state exam.

All course materials will be provided via Digicampus.

Please note that for the modules EAS-1411 and EAS-1414, this course has to be combined with the Proseminar “Haunted Houses, Ghosts of the Past: Postcolonial Hauntings in Anglophone Fiction and Film" (Nadine Ellinger).

Studierende der Anglistik/Amerikanistik und des Faches Englisch können sich bereits während der vorgezogenen Anmeldephase zur Sicherstellung des Studienfortschritts für die Aufbau- und Vertiefungsmodule anmelden. Hierzu wird ein gewisses Kontingent der Kursplätze im Zeitraum vom 12.08.2024 bis 28.08.2024 für die Anmeldung geöffnet. Die Verteilung der Plätze erfolgt am 30.08.2024. Bitte beachten Sie, dass in dieser Anmeldephase Studierende in höheren Fachsemestern bei der Verteilung der Plätze priorisiert werden.
Die allgemeine Anmeldephase beginnt am 02.09.2024 und endet am 07.10.2024.
Folgende Regeln gelten für die Anmeldung:
  • Diese Regel gilt von 02.09.2024 08:00 bis 07.10.2024 12:00.
    Die Anmeldung zu maximal 1 Veranstaltungen des Anmeldesets ist erlaubt.
  • Die Anmeldung ist möglich von 02.09.2024, 08:00 bis 07.10.2024, 12:00.
  • Es wird eine festgelegte Anzahl von Plätzen in den Veranstaltungen verteilt.
    Die Plätze in den betreffenden Veranstaltungen werden am 09.10.2024 um 12:00 verteilt.
