Comment/Description

This course serves as an undergraduate-level introduction to the study of language in its social context. It provides first insights into the various approaches to this area of investigation, including the sociology of language, the ethnography of speaking, discourse analysis and quantitative sociolinguistics. Applying the basic concepts and terminology, we will cover a variety of topics, such as regional and social variation, gender differences, language and power, politeness phenomena or language contact.

Studierende der Anglistik/Amerikanistik und des Faches Englisch können sich bereits während der vorgezogenen Anmeldephase zur Sicherstellung des Studienfortschritts für die Aufbau- und Vertiefungsmodule anmelden.
