Leistungsnachweis In order to get Credit Points in this course, students will compile a portfolio. This portfolio will consist of two in-class essays (the better of which will be counted), and outline for the research essay that has to be turned in and a research essay. For students who also particpate in the Übung, the portfolio will have further parts, specified in the description of the Übung.

Kommentar/Beschreibung

In this course we will analyze a variety of American plays under the theme of Eco-Drama (or Environmental Drama). North America has been and is still frequently characterized by its landscape as much as by its exploitation of the environment and its contribution to anthropogenic climate change. We will consider plays from the 20th and 21st century that deal with a variety of topics from the frontier to industrialization to environmental catastrophes and consider what views we might gain by paying particular attention to the roles of space, place and environment, and also species, how these themes are often entangled with questions of social justice, class, race & gender.

IMPORTANT:
Please be aware that for most students this module consists of the Proseminar plus the Übung Drama Analysis - which follows right after on Mondays 17:30-19:00. You are required to take both together in the same semester.

All students will automatically be registered for the appropriate exercise class/Übung once they have been assigned a place in their proseminar. Studierende der Anglistik/Amerikanistik und des Faches Englisch können sich bereits während der vorgezogenen Anmeldephase zur Sicherstellung des Studienfortschritts für die Aufbau- und Vertiefungsmodule anmelden. Hierzu wird ein gewisses Kontingent der Kursplätze im Zeitraum vom 09.02.2026 bis 25.02.2026 für die Anmeldung geöffnet. Die Verteilung der Plätze erfolgt am 27.02.2026 um 18 Uhr. Bitte beachten Sie, dass in dieser Anmeldephase Studierende in höheren Fachsemestern bei der Verteilung der Plätze priorisiert werden.
Die allgemeine Anmeldephase beginnt am 02.03.2026 und endet am 06.04.2026.
Folgende Regeln gelten für die Anmeldung:
  • Es wird eine festgelegte Anzahl von Plätzen in den Veranstaltungen verteilt.
    Die Plätze in den betreffenden Veranstaltungen werden am 01.04.2026 um 12:00 verteilt.
  • Diese Regel gilt von 02.03.2026 08:00 bis 01.04.2026 08:00.
    Die Anmeldung zu maximal 1 Veranstaltungen des Anmeldesets ist erlaubt.
  • Die Anmeldung ist möglich von 02.03.2026, 08:00 bis 01.04.2026, 08:00.
