Comment/Description

The aim of this course is to give a comprehensive introduction to the poetry of English Romanticism. We will approach this epoch by a close reading of the major poems of the so-called “Big Six”, i.e. William Blake, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Lord Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelley and John Keats. Additionally, we will discuss exemplary poems by Charlotte Smith and Anna Laetitia Barbauld. In order to be able to fully understand these texts, we shall also explore their socio-historical context and key concepts of English Romanticism.

Studierende der Anglistik/Amerikanistik und des Faches Englisch können sich bereits während der vorgezogenen Anmeldephase zur Sicherstellung des Studienfortschritts für die Aufbau- und Vertiefungsmodule anmelden.
